Do you always need an attorney?

Not every case needs a family law attorney (or any attorney, for that matter). Some small family law cases can be settled directly with the other side. Sometimes, it makes more sense to settle a small divorce case, for example, without the help of an attorney because attorney's fees and other costs might leave little or no assets for spouses to divide when the case is finished.

On the other hand, if your case involves substantial assets or complicated issues of child custody it becomes more important to have a divorce, custody or modification lawyer working on your side, or to at least to consult with an attorney prior to talking to the opposing party or their attorney.

After an initial consultation, we will tell you if you can resolve the issues without further attorney assistance and give you a realistic assessment of your situation and your legal options.

If you are facing a divorce or other family law matter, you might not need a lawyer, but you should protect yourself with quality information before you call an attorney. Learn what steps to take, and what mistakes to avoid, in order to protect your rights. And, if you need a family law attorney, learn how to select the right one for your case.
