What kind of cases do we accept?

The types of cases we accept include:

Divorce:

As a family law firm handling divorce, custody, modification and other family law matters, we have extensive experience since 1989 helping people through the difficult challenges inherent in Texas divorce, including child support and child custody issues, visitation rights, division of property, spousal support, and protective orders. We encourage using mediation services to help resolve disputes.

Division of Marital Assets:

If your divorce involves property and assets (or debt), the services of an experienced attorney may be needed to help you achieve a fair distribution of your marital assets. We work to help clients locate and identify property under their spouse's control, even if one spouse attempts to hide assets from another. As an experienced law firm focused on family law, we work hard to help you achieve a fair distribution of property through mediation, settlement negotiations or litigation.

Child Support:

We provide guidance on Texas family law and the family court system as it pertains to your child support needs. We explain how the income you or your spouse earns can be made available to pay support to the custodial parent and we seek support order modifications as needed when changes occur in the payor’s or payee’s income level.

Child Custody and Visitation Rights:

It is in the best interest of everyone in the family when separating parents are able to resolve child custody and visitation rights issues in a reasonable manner. Through the use of mediation, many divorcing couples have been able to resolve their differences and create a solution that is in the best interests of their children. However, if the parties cannot agree upon a custody or visitation schedule, then a judge must determine one. We advocate for the rights of our clients and their children both in and out of the courtroom.

Modification of Court Orders:

When income or circumstances change, we assist clients in obtaining modifications to child support, alimony and child custody orders.

Adoptions:

We are pleased to handle all types of adoptions, including step-parent adoptions, private adoptions and foreign/international adoptions of children.

Paternity:

There are many reasons that people need the assistance of a paternity lawyer. We help clients in all matters involving paternity.

Mediation:

Mediation is an excellent way to resolve many family law cases. It is a voluntary, low-pressure, collaborative means for the parties, with the help of their attorneys, to resolve their case and avoid the time, expense and emotional drain of trial. We actively encourage the use of mediation in most cases.

Restraining Orders:

Sometimes there will be irreparable harm to a client if the opposing party is no immediately ordered to either do or not do certain things. This is when a restraining order may be necessary to control the behavior of the other side until a hearing can be conducted on the issues. When appropriate, we work to obtain restraining orders regarding finances, custody, living arrangements, and other matters while the case is pending.

Domestic Violence:

Unfortunately, domestic violence and emotional abuse are often parts of dysfunctional family relationships. We work to stop and prevent the recurrence of these abuses through the use of restraining orders and protective orders. Also, where appropriate, we can make claims for personal injury or other torts against the spouse within a divorce case. We do what it takes to protect our clients who have been victims of abuse.

We want you to know your rights before you discuss your family law case with anyone. Not every case needs a lawyer, but everyone facing divorce or other family law issues needs good information on how to pursue their case.
